Family & Domestic Violence Leave

This article explains about the Family & Domestic Violence Leave setup on HeroPay.

The Fair Work Commission has updated all industry and occupation awards to include a new clause about family and domestic violence leave. This new clause applies from the first full pay period on or after 1 August 2018. All employees (including casual employees) covered by an award with the new clause are entitled to 5 days unpaid family and domestic violence leave. The 5 days renews each 12 months of their employment but does not accumulate if the leave is not used.

If you notice that this leave is not being accrued correctly or is not showing up on an employee's leave allowance template please see below on how the leave should be set up correctly:

 

1. Leave Category:

The below screenshot is an example of a correct Family Domestic Violence Leave (FDVL) setup in Payroll Settings/ Leave categories. In this example 38 hours FDVL is being accrued in advance, the balance is not carried forward to the next year and the leave is not paid.

 

2. Leave Allowance Template:

The next step is under Payroll Settings/ Leave allowance templates to check if your current leave allowance template(s) is set up correctly with the FDVL. The FDVL should be enabled as per screenshot below:

 

 

The accrual values should be the same in the template as in Step 1:

 

 

 3. Leave Category on EH:

If your organisation are on HeroPay & Employment Hero, you should also make sure on Employment Hero (HR platform) that this leave category is updated. Go to Payroll Settings > Leave Categories > Update from Payroll

 

 

If all the three steps mentioned above are followed then the Family and Domestic Violence Leave will be setup correctly both on the HeroPay and Employment Hero.
