Dashboard: Onboarding an Employee


You can onboard employees via the dashboard. You can use this process to add new or existing staff to your Employment Hero platform.

Onboarding an Employee via the Dashboard

  1. On the Employment Hero dashboard page, click on the Add button.

  2. On the Basic Information page enter the following information:
    • Employee's personal email address.
    • Employee's first name.
    • Employee's last name.
    • Employee code.
    Helpful Tip: The employee code is an optional field and can remain blank. This will not affect the onboarding process.

  3. Click the Continue button.
  4. On, the Employment Details page enter the following information:
    • Employment type.
    • Start date.
    • Job title.
    • Probation length.

  5. Click the Continue button.
  6. On the Pay Details page enter the following information:
    • Industrial instrument.
    • Classification.
    • Leave allowance template.
    • Pay rate template.
    • Salary / pay rate.
    • Work hours.
    • Ordinary work day.
    • Pay category.
    • Pay schedule.
    • Cost centre.
    • Employee benefits.
    • Synchronise with payroll.
    Warning: The industrial instrument, classification, leave allowance template, pay rate template and synchronise with payroll option are only available if you have a connection to HeroPay.
    Helpful Tip: The Pay Employees their Normal Hours by Default option, needs to remain ticked if you have autopay enabled i.e. this is for employees on a salary and who do not submit a timesheet

    However, for this function to work, you need to set the employees’ standard hours per week, as that will be the multiplier for autopay. If you do not change this setting, it will set the default hours to zero, i.e. they will get paid $0 in the pay run.

    Helpful Tip: Clicking the Issue Contract button will take you to the Contract Creation page. This page will allow you to create a new employee contract and send that new contract through to the employee's personal email address.
  7. Click the Finish button.

Removing an Onboarded Employee

To remove an onboarded employee:

  1. Click on the three dots to access the Selection menu.
  2. Click on the Delete Employee button.
    Helpful Tip: Deleting and onboarded employee will bypass your employee off boarding process. Use the Delete Employee button primarily for cases where you have made a mistake with the onboarding application process.
